There is great debate as to whether Athalia—questionably the evilest queen to ever rule Judea—was Ahab and Jezebel’s daughter or Ahab’s sister. This article by Reuven Chaim Klein puts that to rest in my mind. See what you think. (Here’s a sidenote: Athalia had all but one of her grandchildren murdered so that she could assume rulership of the monarchy unopposed. Additionally, she was the only queen to ever rule in Israel. King Joash, the only remaining child and heir in Judea, the southern Kingdom, was rescued by Jehosheba, the sister of King Ahaziah (Joash’s father) and wife of the high priest Jehoiada. She hid him in the Temple, where he was protected and raised by Jehoiada, the high priest.
