THE NUMBER 40 appears throughout Scripture as a powerful symbol of testing, trial, preparation, and judgment—often followed by renewal, transformation, or a divine new beginning. Its repeated use is far from random. Across both the Old and New Testaments, the number 40 marks spiritually significant turning points in the lives of individuals and nations.

       40 Days and 40 Nights — A Time of Testing and Turning

1. The Flood (Genesis 7:12)

“And rain fell on the earth forty days and forty nights.”
Significance: Judgment on a corrupt world, followed by renewal through Noah’s obedience.

2. Moses on Mount Sinai (Exodus 24:18; 34:28)
