The year is 2177. The Explorer Class Starship Reliant (United Federation of American States) is leaving Jupiter and traveling toward an undisclosed location at the outer reaches of the galaxy. The travelers (14 in number) are in an embryonic state, being monitored by three caretakers (translucent blue, amorphic robot–beings) who have no knowledge of either their destination, nor when they are scheduled to arrive. Immediately the flight is thrust into jeopardy, as two of the caretakers, cast the third off the ship, watching from a portal as he, staring back in anguish, leaves in a small emergency pod.
